Established: April 2, 1990. Headquarters: Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh). Parent: Originally subsidiary of IDBI, now independent.

Objective: To serve as the Principal Financial Institution for the promotion, financing, and development of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector.

Functions of SIDBI ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

1. Indirect Finance (Refinance) ๐Ÿ”„

  • SIDBI provides funds to Banks, SFCs (State Financial Corporations), and Microfinance Institutions (MFIs).
  • These institutions then lend to small businesses.
  • Benefit: Ensures banks have enough money to lend to MSMEs.

2. Direct Finance ๐Ÿ’ฐ

  • Lends directly to MSMEs for specific purposes:
    • Modernization: Upgrading technology.
    • Expansion: Growing business.
    • Energy Efficiency: Green projects.

3. Promotion & Development ๐Ÿš€

  • Startup Support: Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS).
  • Skill Development: Entrepreneurship training.
  • Credit Guarantee: Manages CGTMSE (Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises) - helps MSMEs get collateral-free loans.

4. Microfinance Support ๐Ÿค

  • Provides bulk loans to MFIs (who lend to poor women/SHGs).
  • Capacity building for MFIs.

MUDRA Loans

PMMY (Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana):

  • Shishu: Loans up to โ‚น50,000.
  • Kishore: Loans โ‚น50,000 to โ‚น5 Lakhs.
  • Tarun: Loans โ‚น5 Lakhs to โ‚น10 Lakhs.

Goal: "Funding the Unfunded" (small shopkeepers, vendors).
