Exam Pattern Questions and Answers
Question 1: "Define Workbook and Worksheet. Differentiate between them." (4 Marks)
Answer: A Workbook is a Microsoft Excel file that serves as a container for one or more Worksheets. It is the entire document you save to your computer. A Worksheet is a single spreadsheet within that workbook where you actually enter and manipulate data.
Key Differences:
- Container: A workbook contains worksheets; a worksheet exists inside a workbook.
- Tab System: Worksheets are identified by tabs at the bottom-left of the screen.
- Usage: You typically save a Workbook according to a project name (e.g., 'Annual_Report.xlsx') and divide it into Worksheets for different months or departments.
Question 2: "What are the dimensions of an Excel 2016 worksheet in terms of Rows and Columns?" (2 Marks)
Answer: A single Excel worksheet consists of:
- Rows: 1,048,576 rows.
- Columns: 16,384 columns (ending with the letters XFD).
Summary
- A Workbook is the file; a Worksheet is the page.
- Every cell has a unique address (e.g., A1).
- .xlsx is the standard file format.
- Navigation can be done via the Name Box or mouse.
If you have many sheets in a workbook, right-click the navigation arrows to the left of the sheet tabs to see a full list of all hidden and visible worksheets!
