Consumer Dispute Redressal Agencies 🏛️

These are the quasi-judicial bodies (Like courts) where you file complaints. Also called Consumer Forums or Consumer Commissions.

The 3-Tier System:

1. District Commission (Lowest)
2. State Commission (Middle)
3. National Commission (Highest)

1. District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission 🏘️

Established by: State Government (in each district).

Composition:

• President: District Judge or qualified person.
• Members: 2 or more members (one must be a woman).

Jurisdiction (Power to hear cases):

• Pecuniary Jurisdiction: Value of goods/services ≤ ₹1 Crore.
• Territorial Jurisdiction: Dispute within that district.

Time Limit: Cases should be decided within 3 months.

2. State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission 🏙️

Established by: State Government (one per state).

Composition:

• President: High Court Judge or qualified person.
• Members: Not less than 4 (one must be a woman).

Jurisdiction:

• Pecuniary: Value > ₹1 Crore but ≤ ₹10 Crore.
• Appellate: Hears appeals from District Commission.

Time Limit: 45 days (90 days with reasons).

3. National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) 🇮🇳

Established by: Central Government (New Delhi).

Composition:

• President: Supreme Court Judge or qualified person.
• Members: Not less than 4 (one must be a woman).

Jurisdiction:

• Pecuniary: Value > ₹10 Crore.
• Appellate: Hears appeals from State Commission.
• Revision: Can review its own orders.

Time Limit: 90 days (150 days with reasons).
