Consumer Protection Councils 🏛️
These are advisory bodies (Not courts). They promote consumer rights and awareness.
Types of Councils 📋
1. Central Consumer Protection Council (CCPC)
- Established by: Central Government.
- Chairman: Union Minister (Consumer Affairs).
- Members: Ministers, NGOs, Consumer Groups, Industry Representatives.
Functions:
- Promote and protect consumer rights.
- Advise Central Government on consumer policy.
- Review implementation of consumer laws.
2. State Consumer Protection Council (SCPC)
- Established by: State Government.
- Chairman: State Minister (incharge of Consumer Affairs).
Functions:
- Same as CCPC, but at state level.
- Coordinate with Central Council.
3. District Consumer Protection Council (DCPC)
- Optional: May be established by State Government.
- Works at district level.
Council vs Commission
Councils: Do NOT decide cases. They only promote awareness and advise government. Commissions (Forums): These are the courts where you file complaints and get justice. Don't confuse them!
